Miraj Hammam Spa
If you’re not going to Turkey, this spa is the next best thing. It’s a hidden gem that the locals love, and the lucky tourists who find out about it come back to Vancouver to experience again!
Be prepared for a relaxing, romantic experience in a gorgeous building by knowledgeable staff. The service is unhurried and excellent, with a lounge for after your treatment where you can relax and stay in your unwound, Zen state for as long as possible. Snacks are provided in the lounge, too.
The pricing ranges from $40 for basic masques to $270 for the complete package of a steam room, exfoliation, massage and facial. These prices are fairly reasonable for the quality of the services you’ll receive. If you’re looking to treat yourself or a loved one, this is a must-do activity on your Vancouver itinerary.
Check out the hours before you go -- for women, the spa is open Tuesday through Saturday, and men are allowed at a later hour on Thursdays. Sundays are reserved for couples, and it’s worth a visit with your significant other for a little extra romance.
The Capilano Suspension Bridge can be a bit of a tourist trap, but it is worth a visit.
You can look for independent companies offering tours of the majestic British Columbia forests. Some of them are ancient and truly a sight to behold. If you search for “eco tour Vancouver” or “forest tour Vancouver”, you’ll find many tour operators willing to give you a great adventure.
There’s even a zip line where you can literally fly above the ancient temperate rainforest, and catwalks that crisscross over it. Check out your various options depending on your budget and go see the forest in some way. |

The Capilano suspension bridge can be reached by taking the Seabus to the North Shore, though it’s not a good experience for someone afraid of heights or on a windy, blustery winter day! The bridge itself is a footbridge and it does sway in the wind or when there are many people on it.
Check out the Treetops Adventure while you’re there; it consists of a series of bridges through the trees, giving you the ability to practically become a squirrel far above the ground!
The tour is complimentary and takes about half an hour. The tour guides are knowledgeable and able to explain the differences between temperate rainforests like those of the Vancouver area and tropical rainforests, the type that usually comes to mind when we think of rainforests. They explain all sorts of ecology-related facts, and you’ll definitely learn a lot.
Punjabi Market
While this isn’t a traditional “market”, it’s the equivalent district to Chinatown for Indian goods. This area of town is filled with Indian restaurants and sweet shops, clothing stores where you can buy cheap silk and ethnic clothing, and jewelry stores galore.
There’s a Sikh temple that you can also visit, designed by a fairly well known architect (Arthur Erickson). If you visit, however, follow the Sikh customs: remember to leave your shoes at the door, and if you’re a woman, cover your head with a scarf.
If you visit in April, there’s a celebration called Vaisakhi, in honor of the birth of the Sikh religion. The neighborhood comes alive at this time of year, and the stores and restaurants cater to the many visitors that flood the region. For a real taste of the Indian culture, take in this festival!
Kitsilano
This is a fun, laidback neighborhood that doesn’t feel touristy. The Vancouver locals like this neighborhood because it’s a trendy, fun place to spend time. The shopping around the Kitsilano area is particularly great, as there are many small, independent stores and cafés.
There are two beaches nearby -- Kitsilano and Jericho. Both have great views of the ocean and people! Visit the outdoor swimming pool and play beach volleyball with the locals; you’re bound to have fun.
West 4th Avenue and West Broadway are the main commercial areas in Kitsilano, hosting great shopping and unique little boutiques. If you’re looking for a good sports store, West 4th in this neighborhood hosts several, since people with active lifestyles tend to gravitate towards the Kitsilano neighborhood. The Broadway area is less trendy but just as charming, with a small Greek presence in areas. For book fans, Kitsilano is a particularly appealing area, since the variety of second-hand bookstores here is fantastic.
