Fine Dining

1. West Restaurant and Bar: http://www.westrestaurant.com

This classy restaurant concentrates on regional foods prepared in unique ways. Service is great, and the alcohol selections (both wine and cocktails) are quite varied.

2. Blue Water Café and Raw Bar: http://www.bluewatercafe.net

If price isn’t a concern, this restaurant is one of the top seafood restaurants in Vancouver (which is quite a feat in a city filled with seafood restaurants). The seafood, sushi and oysters served here are top-class, and celebrities can sometimes be spotted frequenting the location.

3. Refuel Restaurant: http://refuelrestaurant.ca

A great selection of quality, well-cooked meat dishes makes this restaurant a premier Vancouver dining experience. You can even watch the chefs preparing your food in the kitchen.

Moderately Priced

1.Three Lions Café: 1 East Broadway Street

It feels like a traditional British pub, and the food is delicious. If you’re looking for a friendly atmosphere to relax and enjoy stellar service at good prices, this place will satisfy you.

2. Water Street Café: http://www.gastown.org/microsite/310

This Gastown restaurant is a fun people-watching spot and is a classic, can’t-go-wrong choice. Not a “hip” new place, but worth a visit for a casual lunch. The main courses are delicious, though the desserts are usually fairly ordinary.

3. Locus Café: http://www.locusonmain.com

If trendy is more your thing, try this medium-priced café with almost gothic décor (don’t worry, it’s not overboard) and a great selection of foods. Plenty of drink selections for those interested.

Cheap and Delicious

1. Go Fish Ocean Emporium: located by the fisherman’s wharf

You’ll never taste better fish and chips, and you’re sure to love the tuna tacos. This is a true local’s favourite. Turn right after crossing the Granville Island bridge from your Granville expedition, and walk along the water on the mainland side and you will find it.

2. Jane’s: 4217 Hastings Street

A little further afield, but if you’re out that way, traditional diner-style Jane’s will satisfy your hunger for less. A breakfast under five dollars that includes eggs, toast, fried potato chunks, and sausage or bacon, and it actually tastes decent. Lunches include some Chinese food items too, with an interesting selection of cuisine.

3. Sunrise Pizza and Steak House: 949 Commercial Drive

A delicious mainstay of this Vancouver region, this restaurant is likely to become your top choice of pizza restaurants. The ‘80’s flair to the décor makes it a fun place to kick back and relax, and if you order a pitcher of beer, you get a free appetizer.

Snacks

1. Belgian Fries: http://www.belgianfries.com

If you have a hankering for amazing fries, a deep-fried Mars bar, or even deep-fried ice cream, try this place out. While the plain fries are sometimes not what they could be, try War out. Don’t be alarmed by the name, it’s a dish consisting of fries, Thai peanut sauce, mayonnaise and fried sweet onions. It tastes better than it sounds.

2. Pearl Drops: http://www.pearldropstea.ca

Bubble tea is a burgeoning specialty of Vancouver-area cafés, but this place does it best. You’ll want to come back and try different customizations to find the perfect drink. Matcha milk shakes are delicious, and the food is pretty good, too.

3. Richmond Night Market vendors: http://www.richmondnightmarket.com

Even though this isn’t an established location, this festival/market/adventure is well worth visiting if you’re in Vancouver for the summer. After shopping at the many little booths and watching the performers, snack from the delicious food stalls. For sheer variety and tastiness, this can’t be beaten.

Ethnic Food

1. Sushi King House: http://www.sushikinghouse.com

Between downtown and the airport, this place is worth the drive. It offers great value for delicious Japanese food. You can eat in or take out, and the service is always friendly. If you order in advance, you can get a discount.

2. Falafully Good: 3170 Oak Street

This is an amazing restaurant with great value for Middle Eastern food. Try taking out the chicken or lamb shawarma and you’ll find yourself coming back. This restaurant is one of the hidden gems of the lower mainland for Middle Eastern cuisine.

3. Au Petit Café: http://www.aupetitcafe.com

Vietnamese subs are one great tasting and healthy staple here. Try the curry beef stew or pho for a change, but the subs are the best part of this restaurant. The pricing is always reasonable, as an added bonus.
