Since Vancouver is such a large city and popular tourist destination, your choices for accommodations are varied. You can find hotels, hostels, motels, inns, bed and breakfasts, and even more choices in Vancouver.

Luxury Hotels Vancouver

A scenic location, the hotel has amazing room views and many amenities. Located in Canada Place with convenient access to downtown attractions, along with a cruise ship terminal and convention center. Rates vary with the seasons, but should be in the $250+/night range.

2. Opus Hotel: http://www.opushotel.com

Located in the Yaletown neighbourhood, focuses on both comfort and style. Very reputable, completely smoke-free, with many amenities and one of the top stylish Vancouver bars. Rates $250+/night, depending on the season.

3. Fairmont Hotel: http://www.fairmont.com/HotelVancouver
Comfortable, elegant, and has a somewhat old-fashioned charm. Internet, a telephone, and coffee makers are in every room. All standard hotel amenities are found there, including air conditioning and cable TV. The Fairmont also has a spa and health club, gift stores inside the hotel, and a top-class restaurant and lounge. Pets are welcomed. Rates will likely be $200/night or more, depending on when you travel.

4. Wedgewood Hotel: http://www.wedgewoodhotel.com

If you’re looking for a unique experience and don’t mind paying more for it, this $300+/night boutique hotel is highly recognized for its excellence. Antiques, numerous works of art, and flowers contribute to a rich environment. The hotel is equally recognized for having the best Vancouver bar (it has been rated “best bar” for nine years straight). The accommodations include all standard amenities and even more, from complimentary internet access to flat-screen LCD TVs in each room.

Just steps away from the famous Robson Street, you’ll find this boutique hotel. Some of the rich and famous can be spotted at the lounge, and hotel facilities include a heated pool, workout centre, and health club. It’s close to everything you’ll need, and pets are allowed. Rates will probably be $250+/night, lower in the off-season.

Cheap Hotels Vancouver

1. Ramada Inns and Suites: http://www.ramadavancouver.com

Depending on which area of town you’ll be staying in, there are several available locations, all with varying prices. Generally, the downtown hotel is more expensive, at around $150/night. The Metrotown location pricing is lower, at $100/night or so. The accommodations are usually decent to good, and the amenities include free wireless internet, TV with cable, and newspapers. Pets are also allowed in the downtown location, a major plus if you’re traveling with an animal, since not many hotels in Vancouver accept them.

2. Barclay Hotel: http://www.barclayhotel.com

This downtown hotel’s pricing is in the $50-$100/night range. It’s a heritage hotel located near popular attractions and the shopping district. The amenities are sparse, and there is no elevator to the top floors, but if you’re looking for a cheaper hotel that’s in a downtown area, this might be right for you.

3. Burrard Inn: http://www.burrardinn.com

This hotel is reasonably priced, with rates from $60-$120/night. It’s located in central downtown Vancouver, nine blocks away from the Vancouver Convention Centre itself. Two floors are non-smoking, and some rooms have kitchenettes. The hotel offers free wireless internet, free local phone calls, guest parking, an outdoor tropical garden and patio area, cable TV, and ensuite bathrooms with each room.

4. Buchan Hotel: http://buchanhotel.com

The rates at this hotel vary from $60 to $150/night, depending on the type of room you need. Children 12 and under stay for free. Cable TV, secured storage, a guest lounge, and laundry facilities are all available here. The hotel is located about a block away from Stanley Park, in an ideal location to explore Vancouver.

Like most hotels, this hotel is cheapest in the off-season; the rates vary from $60 to $150/night, depending on your chosen room style. The facilities are clean and well maintained. Air conditioning is provided, as well as TV services in most rooms, wireless internet, guest kitchens, and lounges. This hotel is located near the downtown area, in the Yaletown district.

Motels Vancouver

1. Days Inn: http://daysinnvancouvermetro.com

Ten minutes away from downtown and rated with three and a half stars, this is a comfortable little motel. Internet access is free and high-speed, and parking is free too. Cable TV, coffee maker, iron and ironing board, and other standard amenities are in each room. Rates range from $50-$150/night.

2. City Centre Motor Hotel: http://www.citycentermotorhotel.com

Within walking distance of the Main Street shopping distance, this motor hotel offers most of the usual amenities. Cable TV, air conditioning, internet access, and free parking are included. Rates depend on the season and should be about $65-$100/night.

3. Lake City Motor Inn: http://www.lakecitymotorinn.com

This motel is approximately twenty minutes’ drive away from downtown Vancouver. The motel itself is laid-back and pretty, and amenities are plentiful. Wireless internet, cable TV, free local calls, and a variety of rooms from small to two-level suites are available. The rates are reasonable, in the $100 range, but you’ll have to contact them and make a reservation to confirm the rates for the time of year you’re visiting.

A drive-in with 65 units, this motel is well maintained and a fifteen-minute drive from the downtown area. Each room has cable TV and a private bathroom, and wireless internet is available close to each room. Rooms range from small ones for two people to larger family units, complete with kitchens. It is a pet-friendly motel. Room rates will be around $90-$130/night.

About half an hour from downtown, this motel is another cheap option in the $50-$100/night range. Motel amenities include air conditioning, a private bathroom, cable TV, and parking. There are different room options from kitchenettes to rooms with beautiful views.

Two deluxe suites are housed in this beautiful waterfront B&B. The amenities are numerous, from private bathrooms and kitchenettes to king-sized beds, independent heat controls, TV/DVD/VCR, a selection of movies, and more. Each kitchenette includes appliances and all the dishes you’ll need. Also, each suite has an office area including high-speed internet access, a laser printer, a desktop computer, a telephone line, etc. Breakfast is available each morning. The rates range from $150/night to $290/night, depending on the season and the length of your stay.

5. Thistledown House Vancouver B&B: http://www.thistle-down.com

This place is located in North Vancouver, and includes rooms with amenities such as a sunken sitting room, private patio and jet tub; private balcony and view of the garden; stained glass windows and a small sitting room, etc, depending on your room. Breakfasts are varied and tasty! Rates range from $110-295/night.

Hostels Vancouver

1. Hostelling International -- Vancouver: http://www.hihostels.ca

Two different HI-Hostel locations are located in downtown Vancouver, with a third not far away. The attractions of Vancouver are close by. Library and TV room in the building; free breakfast, storage lockers, laundry, free wi-fi and linens are among the amenities. Rates range from $27-$115/night, $4/night cheaper if you’re a HI member.

2. SameSun Backpacker Lodge: http://vancouverhostel.com

A hostel within walking distance of all the major attractions and transit lines, this facility has a good number of amenities too. Free breakfast and wi-fi, a TV room, laundry room, and extra-secure doors make it a good hostel choice. The hostel also hosts activities daily. Rates are from $25/night to $90/night, depending on the season.

3. Columbia Hotel: http://www.columbiahotel.ca

One of the cheaper accommodations you’ll find. The rates go as low as $39 per night, though bathrooms are shared. Close to the centre of the city, and offers laundry services and TV. Weekly rates $200+ and even monthly rates are available. This hostel-style hotel is pet-friendly if your pets are friendly.

4. C&N Backpackers Hostel: http://www.cnnbackpackers.com

The oldest independent backpacker hostel, centrally located in Vancouver, and great rates of $20-$55/night. Free linens, high-speed internet and city maps will help you out during your stay. They host pub crawls, and even rent bikes for $10/day.

5. Shamrock Hostel: http://www.hostels.com/hostels/canada/shamrock-hostel/4805

A quiet hostel in an off-the-beaten-path area of town, this isn’t in the safest area of town, but if you’re careful you’ll probably be fine. It is close to all the attractions, and amenities include linen, shared kitchen, internet, and free local phone. Rates range from $29-$50, depending on the season and your room type.
